I Know Very Well That Many Scientists Consider Dowsing As They Do Astrology, As A Type Of Ancient Superstition. According To My Conviction This Is, Unjustified. The Dowsing Rod Is A Simple Instrument Which Shows The Uncanny Reaction Of The Human Nervous System To Certain Factors Which Are Unknown To Us At This Time.

What Artistic And Scientific Experience Have In Common - Where The World Ceases To Be The Scene Of Our Personal Hopes And Wishes, Where We Face It As Free Beings Admiring, Asking, And Observing, There We Enter The Realm Of Art And Science. If What Is Seen And Experienced Is Portrayed In The Language Of Logic, We Are Engaged In Science. If It Is Communicated Through Forms Whose Connections Are Not Accessible To The Conscious Mind But Are Recognized Intuitively As Meaninful, Then We Are Engaged In Art. Common To Both Is The Loving Devotion To That Which Transcends Personal Concerns And Volition.

Understanding Of Our Fellow Human Beings...becomes Fruitful Only When It Is Sustained By Sympathetic Feelings In Joy And Sorrow.

But In Physics I Soon Learned To Scent Out The Paths That Led To The Depths, And To Disregard Everything Else, All The Many Things That Clutter Up The Mind, And Divert It From The Essential. The Hitch In This Was, Of Course, The Fact That One Had To Cram All This Stuff Into One's Mind For The Examination, Whether One Liked It Or Not.
