Jesus Refers To The Poor Over And Over Again. There Are 2,000 Verses Of Scripture That Call Upon Us To Respond To The Needs Of The Poor. And Yet, I Find That When Christians Talked About Values In This Last Election That Was Not On The Agenda, That Was Not A Concern. If You Were To Get The Voter Guide Of The Christian Coalition, That Does Not Rate. They Talk More About Tax Cuts For People Who Are Wealthy Than They Do About Helping Poor People Who Are In Desperate Straits.

Christianity Isn't The Only Group That Has Fundamentalists.

Beyond These Models Of Reconciliation, A Theology Of Mysticism Provides Some Hope For Common Ground Between Christianity And Islam. Both Religions Have Within Their Histories Examples Of Ecstatic Union With God, Which Seem At Odds With Their Own Spiritual Traditions But Have Much In Common With Each Other.

That's What They Do In Europe. You Go Down To The City Hall And You Become Legally Connected. You Have A Civil Union There. Then, If You're Religious, You Go Down To The Church, And The Church Blesses The Union. That Gets The Problem Solved.
